Jean Monnet Chair Seminar Welcomes Professor Charlotte Pavillon for the Series Finale

Hanze University of Applied Sciences (UAS) is delighted to announce the grand finale of the Jean Monnet Chair seminar series,featuring the distinguished Professor Charlotte Pavillon. This concluding seminar promises to be an enlightening event for anyone interested in private law, particularly consumer law, and its implications for sustainable economic practices.

Professor Charlotte Pavillon, a leading expert in consumer law, has a rich background in both academia and practical legal applications. Since 2020, she has been the Head of the Department of Private Law and Notarial Law and has served as a Full Professor of Civil Law, focusing on consumer law. She also contributes as a member of the Appeals Board of the Dutch Institute for Financial Disputes (Kifid) and serves as a deputy Judge for the Court of First Instance for the North Netherlands.

Throughout her extensive career, Professor Pavillon has held numerous prestigious positions, including Associate Professor at the University of Groningen and Assistant Professor at the University of Leiden. She earned her PhD with a thesis titled “Open standards in European consumer law: The unfair commercial practice directive from a comparative perspective.”

Her research delves into the intricacies of consumer protection, examining how businesses comply with consumer law by providing clear terms and conditions and avoiding misleading practices. She also explores the dynamic relationship between national and European law, advocating for increased awareness and fair application of consumer law to benefit both consumers and businesses.

Among her recent publications, Professor Pavillon has addressed pertinent topics in consumer law, such as the clarity of terms and conditions in contracts and the forthcoming regulations for environmental labels (“Als de consument door de bomenlogo’s het bos niet meer ziet: nieuwe regels voor milieukeurmerken op komst,” Groninger Civilistenblad, 2023-2024). Additionally, she has contributed to discussions on protecting private buyers in land investments and the implications of recent EU Court decisions on consumer protection.
