Dr. Beata Kviatek, Jean Monnet Chair in Sustainable EU Economy at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, has been invited to take part at the upcoming “35 Years of Jean Monnet Actions” Anniversary Conference, scheduled for October 9-10, 2024 at the Square Brussels Convention Centre in Brussels. Dr. Kviatek’s participation holds significant importance for Hanze University of Applied Sciences, as it provides an opportunity to engage directly with the European Union’s evolving priorities and policies.

Organised by the European Commission, the conference will gather academics, policymakers, and EU specialists to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Jean Monnet Actions—a program dedicated to fostering education and research on European integration. The event will open with welcoming addresses by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Director-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture at the European Commission, and Jean-Marc Lieberherr Monnet, Chairman of the Institute Jean Monnet and grandson of the renowned European architect, Jean Monnet. These speeches will set the stage for a series of discussions exploring the EU’s evolving role on the world stage and the shared values underpinning European democracy.

Dr. Kviatek’s contribution to the conference will align with these key themes, particularly through her expertise in advancing sustainable economic growth within the EU. She is expected to participate in working sessions that will delve into the EU’s strategic priorities, with sustainability being a major focus. On the second day, the program will shift towards interactive debates and discussions focusing on EU enlargement, institutional changes, active citizenship, and Europe’s competitiveness in the global economy. These dialogues will foster an exchange of ideas on how the EU can continue to grow and maintain its influence in an increasingly interconnected world.

The Jean Monnet Actions have long been at the forefront of promoting academic excellence in European integration studies, and Dr. Kviatek’s participation underscores her standing as a thought leader in sustainable EU economy. She is not only the first Jean Monnet Chair at an applied sciences university in the Netherlands but also a pivotal figure in ensuring that Hanze University remains at the cutting edge of research into sustainable European policies.

For Hanze University, the conference offers an invaluable chance to contribute to and benefit from ongoing dialogues on the EU’s future, particularly in the context of sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness. Dr. Kviatek’s participation highlights Hanze’s commitment to fostering EU-wide academic collaboration, while also reinforcing the university’s role in shaping a more sustainable European economy.
